Granny Chic.

I have, and will always be, one of those people who wants what they can't. So when the sun comes out (eventually) I'm getting excited that it'll soon be Winter. Now most people who know me have this view that I am a Grandma. Yes, I'm Sure you can imagine, Its a real compliment! (Eyes rolling) So when I took up the art of knitting it just fueled their comments.
Yet it is the most perfect way to get the ultimate in Knitwear ready for those chilly months and after perfecting my knit and purl stitch...(Moss, I'm still having trouble with) I decided to try an easy project for my first homemade accessory. As you can guess.. Simply enough, I've chosen a scarf!
However, the beauty of all of this is that you pick your own colour's and your own needles so I'm giving a shot at large needles. 12mm to be exact and so far, its not that bad.

I could not recommend trying this yourself. I was lucky enough to have an assorted range of Grandma's and Great grandma's to teach me the ropes when I was young, but perfecting the technique was easy enough with the help of my wonderful Mother.. (Shes standing behind me! :)) and the help of my favourite lady, Kirstie Allsopp. The greatest part as it's a wonderfully cheap and therapeutic hobby, a lady I met learnt on meat skewers as a child, so you can imagine the simplicity of it all.
So cast on and begin. Here's a taster from Learn2Knit on learning your first Stitches.
The knit stitch (k)1. With the yarn at the back of the work, insert the right hand needle from left to right through the front of the first stitch on the left hand needle (Fig.30).

2. Wind the yarn over the right hand needle (Fig.31).

3. Pull through a loop (Fig.32).

4. Slip the original stitch off the left hand needle (Fig.33).

Repeat until all the stitches have been transferred from the left to the right hand needle
